Bitcoin Stewardship
The Strive Bitcoin Stewardship Commitment
Bitcoin is the world's most important monetary network.
Its success does not happen automatically. It is built and protected by people. Developers who review code, find bugs, improve security, debate tradeoffs, and quietly maintain the most important piece of open-source software ever created are key to the foundation both individuals and institutions rely on when they adopt Bitcoin.
As institutional adoption of Bitcoin grows, so does the responsibility of institutions to help preserve the ecosystem that makes Bitcoin possible.
At Strive, we believe companies that benefit from Bitcoin should view supporting its long-term health as part of their fiduciary responsibility. Protecting the network that underpins your most important asset is not philanthropy. It is prudent long-term stewardship.
That principle guides our actions.
We support the Bitcoin Policy Institute on an ongoing basis because thoughtful public policy is essential to protecting Bitcoin's future in the United States.
Today, we are expanding that ongoing commitment by supporting Bitcoin open-source development, beginning with Brink, an organization that supports developers contributing to Bitcoin Core and other critical Bitcoin infrastructure.
Bitcoin Core is the dominant open-source implementation of Bitcoin full-node software, helping both individuals and companies independently enforce the rules protecting the world’s most important monetary network. Their work requires extraordinary technical judgment, discipline, and patience, and it has helped make Bitcoin the most secure and resilient monetary network ever created.
No software project is perfect, and Bitcoin Core is no exception. Open criticism, rigorous review, and healthy technical debate are essential to Bitcoin's success. But criticism alone does not produce stronger software. Great engineers do. The Bitcoin ecosystem should aspire to attract, develop, and retain the very best technical talent in the world. Institutions that benefit from Bitcoin should play a role in ensuring those engineers have the resources they need.
Our support comes with no expectation of influence over technical decisions, governance, or the future direction of the protocol. Quite the opposite. Bitcoin's greatest strength is that it cannot be controlled by any company, government, or institution. Our role is not to influence Bitcoin, but to help preserve the conditions that allow Bitcoin to continue evolving through independent, open-source collaboration.
To preserve that independence, we’re beginning by supporting established, independent organizations that fund Bitcoin open-source development on an ongoing basis. This approach allows Strive to strengthen the ecosystem while avoiding direct influence over funding decisions or technical priorities. We expect to continue evaluating additional opportunities to support Bitcoin's long-term development in a manner consistent with these principles.
Our Principles
Bitcoin is critical infrastructure.
The world's most important monetary network deserves long-term investment in the people who secure it.
Stewardship extends beyond accumulation.
Owning Bitcoin is only part of the equation. Institutions that benefit from Bitcoin should also invest in preserving the ecosystem that gives it value.
Great developers build stronger networks.
The quality, security, and resilience of Bitcoin over the coming decades will ultimately be determined by the people building, reviewing, and maintaining its software.
Strong policy protects strong technology.
Technical innovation and sound public policy reinforce one another. Both deserve long-term institutional support.
Independence is essential.
Financial support should never be accompanied by expectations of influence. Bitcoin succeeds precisely because no single institution controls it, and our support will always respect that principle.
Bitcoin has created extraordinary value for millions of individuals and an increasing number of institutions around the world. As that adoption continues, we believe the institutions that benefit from Bitcoin should increasingly share in the responsibility of preserving it.
We hope every company that builds its business on Bitcoin, from treasury companies and ETF issuers to miners, exchanges, custodians, and financial institutions, considers how it can contribute to the long-term health of the ecosystem. The institutions benefiting from Bitcoin should increasingly share in the responsibility of preserving it.
